One of the reasons why many people choose cats as pets is because they are the right size for any home. However, some cats are huge in comparison to others. In this article, you can read about the largest cat breeds.
What Are the Biggest Cat Breeds?
Among the dozens of cat breeds, some are unique in their size. The following are the largest cat breeds:
1) Maine Coon
Born in the U.S. from a cross between a domesticated cat and a stray cat, this cat weighs 10 pounds and is 68 inches long (adult male cat), and will attract the attention of many people.
The Maine Coon in the photo above is huge. However, its personality is similar to other dog breeds. They love to play and can meow in a variety of tones. They are also more friendly and affectionate than other dog breeds.
The most common coat colors are tabby brown and white. However, they also come in black, gray, red, and ginger.
2) Ragdoll
This cat breed is one of the giant cats globally, not only because of its beautiful fur. An adult male can weigh up to 9 pounds and be 90 centimeters long. Females do not grow taller than 7 pounds and 58 centimeters.
The Ragdoll originated from the crossbreeding of several breeds. These include Siamese, Persian, and Burmese. This breed is very gentle, kind, and smart. Their fur is usually white and downy. They get their name from the fact that they relax to the point of being entirely still when held.

3) Norwegian Forest Cat
This cat with a bizarre name is also one of the largest cats in the world. Males can weigh up to 9 kilograms. Although they have a lot of furs, they look small. The color of their coat varies, but it always contains white.
The Norwegian Forest Cat is native to Scandinavia and is, therefore, one of the most common cats in Europe. They are very active outdoors, love to climb trees, and are docile cats indoors. They are also curious, intelligent, and affectionate.

4) Savannah
This is also one of the larger cat breeds. It is known for its leopard-like fur. This breed was created by crossing a domestic cat with a serval.
Savannahs can weigh up to around 10 kilograms, but their large size makes them look more slender. Their large legs and long tail also characterize them. The exciting thing about this breed is that it has a very gentle and loving nature.
5) Turkish Van
This breed is rarely seen outside Lake Van in Turkey, where it originated (hence the name). Their fur is one of their most essential features.
Their coats are layered to withstand the cold of the mountains they come from. Despite their large size, their fur is as soft as a rabbit.
The Turkish Van weighs about 7 kilograms and is over 90 centimeters long from the tip of its nose to the tip of its tail. It is a muscular and tough cat. Their necks are short, and their hind legs are much larger than their front legs.
They are very aggressive, curious, and active and have no problem living with other cats as long as they are the leader. It is also a cat that needs the attention of many people, as it does not like to be alone.
